Skin Care

Our skin is one of the most vital part of our body. We want it to look good at all times.  Your skin serves you and your body in a number of ways. It aids in sensory perception, protects you from injuries, provides a barrier against dehydration, assists in temperature maintenance, removes toxic wastes, aids in the manufacture of vitamin D, and provides structure to the organs and tissues within your body. Unfortunately, it is also the part that, all too often, takes a real battering. From weather conditions and pollution to poor diets and dehydration, it is our skin that really shows the effects that everyday living can have.

Thus your skin is an integral part of your life. It's essential that you care for it and maintain it in a healthy state so that it will continue to function well for you as you age . That’s why it is so important to look after our skin. A good skincare routine, a well balanced diet and plenty of fluids can help to keep out skin healthy and glowing. But, there are also some other factors that should be considered when planning your skin care routine.

What is your skin type?

It is very important to determine one’s skin type before you take any skin care routine. Skin type strongly influences our decisions about our skin-care routines. The four most common skin types are:

  • Normal (no apparent signs of oily or dry areas)
  • Oily (shine appears on skin, no dry areas at all)
  • Dry (flaking can appear, no oily areas at all)
  • Combination (oily and dry or normal areas)

You can also determine the type of skin you have by trying this simple method, wipe your face with a dry tissue when you wake up in the morning. If there is oil on the tissue, the skin is a greasy type. If there is grease on the center panel only, then it is a combination skin. If there is no grease on the tissue at all, it is either a dry skin or a normal skin. If the skin is left feeling stretched or too tight, shiny and parched, it is dry. If the skin feels smooth, supple and elastic, it is normal.

Skin Care Tips for Dry Skin

1. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day to keep your skin well hydrated; eat lost of fruits and vegetables. Avoid sun exposure.

2. Wash you face 2-3 times a day with mild cleanser formulated for dry skin.

3.  Pat your skin dry after washing. Avoid rubbing yourself dry with a towel, which can whisk away essential oils needed for moisture.

4. Apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp.
